Movies feature Southeastern travel spots

If you're planning a vacation, consider Fort Lauderdale, Edisto Island, S.C., or Pembroke, Va., sites where some favorite movies were filmed.

"Where the Boys Are," the teen drama about the adventures of college kids who hit the beach for spring break, featured Fort Lauderdale's beaches and city life.

"Caddyshack," starring Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield and Bill Murray, was filmed in Fort Lauderdale.

If you've seen "Dear John," starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried, then you probably noticed the beautiful sand dunes, beaches and charm of Edisto Island, S.C.

Edisto Island is also where the Jim Carrey's slapstick, laugh-out-loud comedy "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" was filmed.

"Dirty Dancing," one of the most memorable films of the 1980s, was shot in small-town Pembroke, Va., at the town's Mountain Lake Resort.
