Morningside cottage enriched with German traditions

Renovated cottage in Morningside neighborhood of Atlanta is owned by Stephanie and Sebastian Haase. Sebastian's German heritage is evident throughout the home.

Yellows and reds warm up the formal sitting area.

This chest bears the Haase family crest, a trio of hares. (Haase is German for hare.) The chest was made by Sebastian's uncle.

This sitting area located in the back of the home and just off the kitchen is one of the couple's favorite rooms.

The formal dining room is also full of warm colors. At certain times of the day, it is drenched in light from the adjacent sun room. The painting is by Paul North, an artist from Vermont, where Stephanie grew up and also where the couple first met.

The sun room in the front of the house features onyx and marble tile. This is Stephanie's favorite room.

The master bedroom overlooks the backyard. The couple's dogs, Bogey and Samantha, also have doggie beds in the room.

Decorative hardware complements rich-colored curtains in a formal sitting area in the Haase home.

The balcony, reflected in French doors off an upstairs guest bedroom, creates a cozy sitting or dining area.

This table was handcrafted by Sebastian's father, Bernhard, and is one of many pieces that honor the Haase family's history.

The master bath, which is Sebastian's favorite room, has his and her shower entrances. There are three shower heads from which to choose.

Inlaid wood and contrasting grain patterns add another detail to certain rooms.

A downstairs guest bathroom has a basketweave-inspired tile design.

Granite counters contrast with cream-colored cabinets in the kitchen. The couple poured over shelter magazines to get ideas for their redesigned kitchen.

The back patio is perfect for entertaining guests or spending quiet time.
