Lake Jocassee a cozy getaway

Autumn is a great time to visit Lake Jocassee in the foothills of upcountry South Carolina.

The lack of development and crowds can make it feel like you have the lake all to yourself when out on a boat.

Norris Lake and the marina inside Norris Dam State Park can be seen from the overlook on the west side of the dam, the same spot where FDR came to witness construction of the dam in the 1930s. Norris Dam was the first major project of the TVA.

Whitewater Falls, one of the highest in the eastern United States, is near Lake Jocassee/Devils Fork State Park. Tourists can take a steep trail to the base of the falls.

An 18th century grist mill is one of many historical attractions at Norris Dam State Park on Norris Lake north of Knoxville.
