A little taste of Spain will be coming to Miami when Norwegian Encore arrives to Florida in 2019.
Norwegian Cruise Line announced that Spanish artist Eduardo Arranz-Bravo will be the designer for the hull artwork for the line’s fourth and final Breakaway-Plus class ship.
The colorful and abstract design is inspired by Arranz-Bravo’s hometown of Barcelona.
Norwegian Encore is the last of four Breakaway-Plus class ships from Norwegian Cruise Line. The ship under construction at Meyer Werft shipyard is set to be delivered in October 2019 and begin sailing from Miami in November 2019.
“Norwegian Cruise Line is a dynamic, pioneering company known for its innovative experiences and breathtaking collection of beautifully designed ships,” said Arranz-Bravo in a news release. “I am honored to not only bring that vibrancy to life even more on Norwegian Encore but also showcase my love for the ocean and my hometown of Barcelona.”
The artist is a favorite of Frank Del Rio, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. Del Rio has his hand in the art curation of all of the cruise line’s new ships.
“We are well-known for our iconic hull designs and know that Arranz-Bravo’s lively design will complement the colorful destinations in the Caribbean that Norwegian Encore will visit when she debuts next year,” Del Rio said.
Construction of the ship, which had began in January, continues at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
When it arrives to Miami to begin seven-night Eastern Caribbean itineraries, it will be the third of its class to sail out of PortMiami. Norwegian Escape was the first to call Miami home, and the new Norwegian Bliss will begin sailing from Miami later this year.
The Breakaway Plus ships are a larger version of sister ships Norwegian Breakaway and Getaway. With the delivery of Norwegian Encore in October 2019, the cruise line will have debuted six ships in slightly more than six years.
Norwegian Encore will be similar to its sister ships, the largest in the fleet, which will grow to 17 ships with Encore’s arrival. Norwegian Bliss will be 167,800 gross registered tons with a 3,994-passenger capacity based on double occupancy.
Details about what will exactly be on the new ship were not revealed. Norwegian Escape features a giant water park and ropes course. Both Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Bliss feature go-kart tracks. All feature more than 20 dining options, several with waterfront seating.
Beyond 2019, the cruise line plans to build four more ships, but as part of a smaller ship design, with the first coming in 2021.
