Grove Park Inn, which opened in 1913, is literally chiseled into the rocky face of Sunset Mountain in Asheville.

Guests can enjoy natural sunlight through skylights in the roof of one of the indoor pools at the Grove Park resort.

Built as a winter playground for the wealthy, the Jekyll Island Club Hotel in Georgia still holds the grandeur of the way life used to be.

The Jekyll Island resort was once among the most exclusive clubs in the world. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places

The High Hampton Inn lies just outside of the mountain town of Cashiers in North Carolina. It offers pet-friendly accommodations, mountain lakes and streams for boating, swimming, and fishing, plus views of the Blue Ridge from its 3,600-foot elevation.

Part of the charm of the High Hampton Inn is the lack of technology. You'll find no telephones, televisions or computer hookups in the rooms and cottages, and cellphone reception is sporadic at best.

South Carolina's Daufuskie Island Resort & Breathe Spa is just a short ferry ride away from Hilton Head Island.

Two Daufuskie Island golf courses were included in Conde Nast's list of "Top 100 Golf Courses in the World."
