A French country manor in Roswell

Oct. 28, 2007: This three-story stucco home in Roswell was built to look like a French country estate. Harry and Sandy Beecham designed the driveway to also serve as a courtyard that includes a fountain.

The estate offers 16,000 square feet of space on eight acres in Roswell. The Beecham family has been in the building industry in metro Atlanta and Florida for 75 years.

Structural wooden beams add a rustic accent to the roomy kitchen.

The kitchen includes two islands for food preparation and a breakfast area. The Beechams chose engineered stone counters by Zodiaq because of its anti-bacterial properties.

The couple added a bay window over the sink, creating an odd cabinet configuration. Cabinet designer Mark Whitlock created angled drawers to make use of every inch of space.

Harry Beecham likes to build homes that evoke an old-world style.

A Bible that belonged to Harry Beecham's grandfather, who was a preacher, sits with his sermon notes on an antique desk.

The rock outcropping on the Beechams' eight acres was the inspiration for the land purchase. Harry Beecham installed a small fence to "slow down" the grandchildren and keep them safe.

Harry Beecham stands next to the Little River, which was muddy after a recent rain. Beecham's backyard is in Fulton County; Cherokee County begins on the opposite bank.

The main family room is on the terrace level and features stained and scored concrete floors. The 35-foot wall of windows bathes the room in natural light.

This bedroom accomodates several grandchildren who like to create a slumber-party atmosphere when they visit.

The parlor is one of the first rooms guests see and features a Venetian wax treatment on the walls. The French doors open up to the courtyard for entertaining.

A custom-built table is the centerpiece of the main dining room.

Four generations of Beechams, the focus of these portraits, have worked in the building industry.

The "brother in-law suite." Sandy Beecham's brother is an economics professor who travels 10 months out of the year. He stays with the couple when he's in town.

A grand piano that belonged to Sandy Beecham's grandmother warms up the terrace-level family room. Sandy's grandmother initially won a Ford automobile on a radio contest. She asked for money instead to buy the piano. Later her family sold the piano to a friend, and eventually Sandy Beecham was able to buy it back.

Knickknacks from the family's world travels are spread around the home.

The master bedroom features a private deck with views of "the rock." Sandy Beecham used blues, greens and golds throughout the room.

Matching vanities sit opposite each other in the master bath.
