Condo ideal for entertaining couple

Angela and Patrick Lawrence love the live-work-play atmosphere that their condo at Element in Atlantic Station offers.

Angela and Patrick Lawrence were "looking for a condo in the city to be close to shopping, restaurants and nightlife," comments Angela. In March 2009 they bought a 950-square-foot condo at the Element in Atlantic Station. "It's a live-work-play community; lots of nightclubs and activities, I indulge in all of it. We don't have to leave here to have a good time."

Angela and Patrick Lawrence were lead to Georgia by job transfers, they work in insurance and IT, respectively. Their chic and cozy Midtown condo at the Element in Atlantic Station helps them play, entertain and unwind without having to drive a single mile.

"We wanted to have a place to entertain and unwind," shares Angela. Red, white and black were the key directives the Lawrences gave to their designer, Barbara Elliott of Interiors by Decorators Den. The Baroque couch in the great room "came from Italy and it took six months to get here."

The Lawrences limit the capacity of their intown social gatherings to 25 guests. "Anything larger than that we go up to Duluth," according to Angela.

The custom bar set where a dining room would have been is the condo's main attraction. It was designed by Martin Cirou of Showcase Atlanta. "It's where we start our happy hour. We wanted a front bar, back bar, storage on both sides and granite countertops," offers Angela. "If I wasn't an executive I would be a bartender. I can mix any martini: apple, cosmo, and I have a chocolate martini we call the Obamatini," injects Angela.

Since the custom bar is set where the dining room would have been the Lawrences had the wood treatment mirrored in the kitchen. "The curvature of the bar matches the curvature of the kitchen countertop."

The bedroom bears a few style cues borrowed from a boutique business hotel: more function, less fluff. The Lawrences added a coffered ceiling to the master suite.

"The condo was pretty much modern but we wanted to add some traditional touches like the crown molding, floor molding and trim on top of baseboards," explains Angela.

"In the summer we have pool parties, that's why we wanted a pool view. So we could be out by the pool and [have easy contact with] the bar," notes Angela.

The Element condominiums, situated in the heart of the live-work-play community of Atlantic Station, partially frame a scenic pond, bridge and greenspace.
