Cabin transformed from 'The Clampetts' to glorious abode

Linda Silber, a home planning consultant, and her husband, Ron, renovated and expanded a log home which they bought 10 years ago on Lake Lanier in Buford.

The front view of the Linda and Ron Silber's cabin makes the house look deceptively small. The original cabin was built by the late W.J. Dodd, a former Gwinnett County sheriff and commissioner, in 1986.

Linda and Ron Silber stand in the kitchen of their log home on Lake Lanier in Buford. Linda, a home planning consultant, helps clients with the home-building and design process, from concept to finished product.

The back porch of the Silber's home contains flowers and watering cans. The couple took the relaxed approach to renovation, starting with basic updates to make sure they liked lake living. After seven years of work, the house is what they want it to be.

The terrace level contains many pieces of artwork. It's accented with flagstone flooring, which Silber chose to withstand wet feet and dirt.

A piece by sculptor Edward Moulthrop adorns the master bedroom.

Two sets of French doors lead from the master bedroom to the backyard porch. The room also has high ceilings and a fireplace.

The couple's master bedroom showcases a variety of family photos.

One of the guest bedrooms benefited from the addition of several large windows looking out onto Lake Lanier. The beams were salvaged from a solid wood wall that was removed and replaced with a bank of windows.

A guest bathroom located in the upstairs of the home is accented with two sinks. Krogh Cabinetry built the cabinets in the kitchen and the bathrooms. One of Linda Silber's favorites is a zebra-wood cabinet in the guest bath.

When they are indoors at the lake house, Linda and Ron enjoy this cozy living room.

Linda Silber's office is accented with a lamp made from dice.

A sink from Paris is part of the kitchen's charm. The counters are made of honed granite.

The kitchen includes a beautiful stone arch over the stove.

The dining area is filled with great natural light from the many large windows in the room. The dining room table is made of planks from an Irish pine floor.
