Mike Budenholzer saw both good and bad in Saturday’s 93-88 exhibition loss to the Grizzlies.

The Hawks coach wanted to see a better defensive effort and focus. He wasn’t necessarily pleased with the overall ball movement.

One of the positives was the experience gained from some of the younger players, especially in the fourth quarter. While the Hawks starters and veterans were long on the bench, the Grizzlies played starters Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph and Mike Conley significant minutes in the final period to hold on for the win.

“Probably one of the best things of the night was for some of our younger bigs, and even (guards) Dennis (Schroder) and Shelvin (Mack), got to play against that type of elite player in close game and in the fourth quarter. I think the way (Mike Muscala) and Adreian (Payne) handled themselves in the fourth quarter was really a great opportunity and a great experience for them.”

The Hawks (1-1) continue the exhibition season at the Heat Tuesday.
