UGA graduate student Jonathan Pahlas was on college football's biggest stage Monday night, but he wasn't playing for the University of Alabama or LSU.

Pahlas, wearing a blue No. 12 jersey, was at the Superdome because he was randomly selected by Allstate to attempt a 40-yard field goal at halftime with some prizes on the line -- an RV, a boat, a motorcycle and a home makeover worth $30,000.

The 27-year-old had five chances in 60 seconds, but got off only four before running out of time. Three of his attempts went left of the uprights and one fell short.

On the bright side, he already had won a custom-order 2012 Buick Regal GS, a free trip to New Orleans and tickets to the big game.

After the second half, and perhaps a party or two, it will be time for Pahlas to go back to studying biology and marine science.
