Tommy Hanson's Braves' debut pushed back
Tommy Hanson's much-anticipated major-league debut was bumped from Saturday to Sunday when the Braves' game against the Chicago Cubs was rained out Thursday night at Turner Field.
Hanson, the Braves' top pitching prospect, had been scheduled to start Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers at Turner Field. He's now scheduled to start the series finale against the Brewers, which is scheduled to begin at 1:35 p.m.
Braves manager Bobby Cox pushed back all his starters one day following the rainout rather than skip any pitcher's rotation turn. Jair Jurrjens, who had been set to face the Cubs' Carlos Zambrano on Thursday, will instead start Friday night's home series opener against the Brewers, weather permitting.
The makeup date for Thursday's game will be June 22. That is a mutual off-day for both teams, and the Cubs will travel to Atlanta to play the single game.
Fans with tickets to Thursday's game can use them for any remaining home game on the Braves' 2009 schedule.
The rainout was the second of the season at Turner Field and 14th in the 13-year history of the ballpark. A May 21 rained-out game against Colorado will be made up on Aug. 17.
