How the winning run scored: Norfolk's Eric Thames hit a two-run homer in the first inning and that was enough to beat Gwinnett Monday night in the seven-inning first game of a scheduled doubleheader at Harbor Park.

At the plate: Gwinnett was limited to two hits. The G-Braves only run came in the fourth inning, when Tyler Pastornick scored from third on a passed ball. Braves outfielder Jordan Schafer, playing his third game with Gwinnett on an injury rehab assignment, went 0-for-3 with a strikeout while his average dropped to .100.

On the mound: Gwinnett starter Cody Martin allowed nothing else to Norfolk after the first-inning homer, allowing just one hit and one earned run while striking out four through five innings. Reliever Juan Cendeno gave up two more runs in the sixth.

What's next for Gwinnett: The G-Braves continue a scheduled five-game series in Norfolk Tuesday night, with David Hale (6-5, 2.99) facing the Tides' Tsuyoshi Wada (3-5, 5.02).
