Former NFL wide receiver Terrell Owens will give his Pro Football Hall of Fame induction speech at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on Aug. 4, Owens announced in a statement on Twitter.

Owens, who attended UT Chattanooga from 1993-1996, was one-of-eight inductees named to the 2018 Pro Football Hall of Fame class, but announced in June he would not attend the Aug. 4 Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Canton, Ohio.

The event will be open to the public and will begin at 3:17 p.m.

“After giving it much thought, I have realized just how much I want to celebrate what will inevitably be the best weekend of my life at a place that means so much to me… I’m proud to be a Mac and am honored to be able to share his experience with my family, friends, teammates and fans at the place that provided me an opportunity beyond high school and where I truly began to find myself as an athlete,” Owens wrote in his statement. “Thank you to everyone who has supported my celebration decision.”

Owens recorded 15,934 receiving yards and 153 touchdowns over his 15-year NFL career.
