Georgia Tech quarterback Justin Thomas was briefly taken out of Saturday’s win over Pittsburgh due to an unspecified injury, coach Paul Johnson said Monday.

Thomas played every Tech possession of the first quarter, but backup Tim Byerly played the first series of the second quarter.

“We held him out, let him collect himself, made sure he was alright,” Johnson said of Thomas.

Thomas returned the following series and continued to play in the second half until the game was out of hand. He ran six times for 64 yards before sitting out one series and nine times for 28 yards the rest of the game. He otherwise played an effective game.

“Justin saw things well, his vision was pretty good,” quarterbacks and B-backs coach Bryan Cook said. “He made some good decisions in the pass game.”

Thomas participated in Monday’s practice. Byerly has played in two of the five ACC games.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence in Tim,” Johnson said.
