Falcons rookie Robert Alford will provide a weekly diary for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution this season.
The Hammond, La., native, who played at Southeastern Louisiana, intercepted Saints quarterback Drew Brees in his NFL debut. This week, he’s getting ready to face Tampa Bay. On Sunday against Seattle, Alford had an up-close look at Golden Tate’s dazzling one-handed touchdown catch, but he still questions it’s validity.
Here’s his latest installment, as told to D. Orlando Ledbetter.
It was a very nice catch. I mean, I pinned the right arm like I was supposed to. He bobbled it a little bit. They replayed it and said he was in-bounds. To me, it looked like it was out of bounds. But I mean the officials made their call, and we’ll just have to go with that.
You have some days when you’re doing good, and you have some days when you are down. That’s just some adversity. You have to come back and fight the next play or fight in the next game so that you can come away and be victorious.
I’m just learning (Tampa Bay’s) scheme, the plays and what they like to do from the film that we watched last time. In the subsequent games that they played, they’ve done almost the same exact things they tried against us. That helped us out a lot. It’s really just making sure that we are prepared.
Tampa Bay quarterback Mike Glennon is a very tall kid. He has a very strong arm. He can place the ball anywhere on the football field.
(Tiquan) Underwood is playing more now. He’s very talented. He fits in with their offense very well with Mike Williams going out. He’s stepped into that role.
We are still working very hard and taking it one game at a time. This victory would be very big for us, but right now we are just focusing on taking each game at a time and trying to come away with the victory.
