Donald Sterling generated a fresh headline Thursday night when a published report said his attorney wrote a letter to the NBA saying he won’t pay the $2.5 million fine.

USA Today Sports   said the content of the attorney's letter was revealed by "a person with firsthand knowledge of the letter…"

The unnamed source told the publication that Sterling’s attorney, Maxwell M. Blecher, also said Sterling should not be punished “at all” for racist comments he made on a recording that became public.

Sterling was fined $2.5 million more than two weeks ago by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. Silver also issued a lifetime ban and said he would push for a forced sale of the Clippers.
