Report: Carmelo Anthony, Thunder to part ways this summer

Another All-Star is expected to change teams.

After one season, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Carmelo Anthony are expected to part ways sometime this summer, ESPN’s Royce Young and Adrian Wojnarowski reported Friday.

The expected move, which saves the Thunder over $100 million, is the result of Anthony’s reduced role with the Thunder due to the presence of Russell Westbrook and the addition of Paul George.

Anthony was traded by the New York Knicks in September 2017 for center Enes Kanter, forward Doug McDermott and Chicago’s 2018 second-round draft pick.

Last season, Anthony averaged .404 from the field and .357 beyond the arc for 16.2 points in 32.1 minutes, the lowest point and minute average of his 15-year career.

Young and Wojnarowski reported the four-time Olympic gold medalist’s agent, Leon Rose of CAA Sports, is working with the Thunder on exit strategies for Anthony that could include a trade or stretch provision.

After news of the impending split between Anthony and the Thunder broke, New York Times’ Mark Stein reported the Houston Rockets are interested in landing Anthony.

“The Houston Rockets are among the teams that will have interest in Carmelo Anthony once he secures his free agency, according to league sources,” Stein reported on Twitter.
