The AJC Peachtree Road Race is a fun time for runners on the Fourth of July. For the tykes, there's the AJC Peachtree Jr.

The annual 3K race for kids 7 to 12 will be held May 17 at Piedmont Park. The registration cut off for the race is May 14. For kids 6 and younger, there's the 50M Lil' Peach Dash.

As an extra incentive for youth running groups, the Atlanta Track Club has a new scholarship competition - Peachtree Jr. Challenge - to encourage youth activity. The program, run in conjunction with the club's Kilometer Kids and Sports Authority, will award funds in total of $1,500 and $750 to the three organizations that have the most kids register for either the Peachtree Jr. or Lil' Peach Dash.

"Through the Peachtree Jr. Participant Challenge, we are able to give back to organizations that share our goal of inspiring children to be healthier and more active," said Rich Kenah, Atlanta Track Club's executive director, in a press release.

All AJC Peachtre Jr. finishers receive a T-shirt designed by a young artist. The deadline to submit entries for the AJC Peachtree Jr. T-shirt design contest is April 11.

Kilometer Kids is a youth running program dedicated to inspiring young people to achieve health and fitness through running supported by Atlanta Track Club.
