Atlanta resident Eddie Gonzalez has been selected as the BB&T Atlanta Open tournament director.

Gonzalez succeeds Bob Bryant, who resigned earlier this year to accept a job in Indianapolis. The BB&T Atlanta Open is a 250-point event on the ATP World Tour.

Gonzalez was vice president of sales/national accounts for Athlon Sports for the previous 14 years. He also served as the United States Tennis Association director of sales and marketing in the Southern region from 1990-97.

Gonzalez played tennis and was captain of N.C. State’s team. He later became an ALTA city champion.

The BB&T started at Atlanta Athletic Club in 2010 before moving to the Racquet Club of the South in 2011. It then moved to Atlantic Station, where it has been held the past two years.
