Almost 50,000 tickets have been sold for the Gold Cup semifinals at the Georgia Dome, putting it on pace to set a new attendance record for soccer in metro Atlanta.

The semifinals will be July 22 and could feature the U.S., which won its opening game in the tournament featuring the national teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean, against Honduras 2-1 on Tuesday, in one game and Mexico, which will open against Cuba on Thursday, in another.

The previous record of 68,212 tickets sold happened last year when Mexico played Nigeria in a World Cup warm-up game.

The U.S. hasn’t played in Atlanta since defeating China 1-0 in 1977 in Atlanta-Fulton Country Stadium.
