The Washington Nationals announced Friday manager Dusty Baker’s contract would not be renewed after two years with the organization.

In a statement, the Nationals (97-65) said the team would begin the search for a new manager immediately and work with the manager to build a new coaching staff.

Baker's contract was set to expire at the end of the 2017 season.

"The Lerner family, on behalf of the entire organization, would like to thank Baker for his two years in the dugout," the Nationals said in a statement. "He led the team to the first back-to-back division titles in our history and represented our club with class on and off the field. We wish him the best going forward."

The Nationals, who have had four managers in five years, went 192-132 under Baker.
