'Most Miserable Sports Cities'

Atlanta - once again - tops Forbes' list as the saddest sports town in America.

Forbes ranks Atlanta - again - as the "Most Miserable Sports City." Why? The Braves are perennial bridesmaids, the Falcons lost their only Super Bowl, and hockey has come and gone twice. The stats: Championships: 1-5; semifinals record: 6-10; Seasons/championships: 162/1; last title: 1995 (Braves).

The Cardinals are bottom dwellers. Suns have been to the NBA playoffs 19 times, including the Western Conference Final eight times, with no rings. The stats: Championships: 1-3; semifinals record: 4-9; seasons/championships: 104/1; last title: 2001 (Diamondbacks).

LeBron/Manziel are only hope to deliver this place from purgatory. The stats: Championships: 7-9; semifinals record: 4-11; seasons/championships: 230/7; last title: 1964 (Browns).

A Chargers’ AFL title in 1963 is the only hardware the town has to show for five decades of major sports. The stats: Championships: 1-6; semifinals record: 3-3; seasons/championships: 109/1; last title: 1963 (Chargers).

The Bills 0-4 in Super Bowls, the Sabres are 0-for-27 in Stanley Cup tries in the playoffs, and their NBA team didn’t last. The stats: Championships: 2-6; semifinals record: 6-6; seasons/championships: 106/2; last title: 1965 (Bills).

Astros reached NLCS four times with no rings. Back in the 1980s and '90s, the since-departed Oilers reached the NFL playoffs seven straight years without a title. The stats: Championships: 4-4; semifinals record: 5-8; seasons/championships: 144/4; last title: 1995 (Rockets).

Meltdown by Peyton Manning & Co. against Seattle dropped Broncos to 2-5 in Super Bowls. Nuggets have been to the NBA or ABA playoffs in more than half of their 47 seasons, with no championships. The stats: Championships: 4-7; semifinals record: 11-11; seasons/championships: 147/4; last title: 2001 (Broncos).

Three of their five teams have skipped town. Chiefs’ string of playoff losses over last two decades includes last season’s brutal 45-44 loss to the Colts after leading 31-10 at halftime. The stats: Championships: 3-2; semifinals record: 4-6; seasons/championships: 127/3; last title: 1985 (Royals).

The Vikings were 0-4 in Super Bowls long before the Bills were. The stats: Championships: 7-8; semifinals record: 12-18; seasons/championships: 184/7; last title: 1991 (Twins).

The five-year exemption since the town’s last title has expired. Long history of falling short in the postseason includes 11 losses by the Flyers in the NHL semis or finals. The stats: Championships: 14-18; semifinals record: 32-21; seasons/championships: 362/14; last title: 2008 (Phillies).
