Kennesaw State picked up its third commitment in less than a week – and its first from Cobb County – from Kell’s Taylor Henkle.
“Kennesaw is where I need to go and where I want to go,” he said.
Henkle is a 5-11, 185-pound safety. He said he was receiving interest from Duke, Oklahoma State, Mercer, Furman, Cincinnati, and Georgia Tech, but the Owls were the only team to make an offer.
He said he’s known coach Brian Bohannon for three years, when Bohannon began talking to him about Georgia Tech, where he previously worked.
Henkle was selected second-team all-state last year and to the first-team all-region defensive team.
He joins A.J. Howard and Chandler Burks in Bohannon’s first class at Kennesaw State. The Owls hope to begin play in 2015. He said he has already spoken to Burks.
“We are excited to start it up,” he said.
Henkle said he is also anxious to see how the new program develops.
“I don’t know what conference they will be in and the schedule,” he said. “There’s still a lot of stuff that needs to be filled out. But I’m excited to be a part of a new program.”
Henkle said he is going to sit down with new defensive coordinator Brian Newberry next week to begin discussing the schemes they will run.
Though he has committed early in the 2014 recruiting period, Henkle said he will remain firm with the Owls.
“Truly, I don’t think there’s anything that would make me change my mind,” he said.
