University of Tennessee athletic director John Currie has parted ways with the program after eight months on the job, ESPN’s Chris Low reported.

Currie met with University officials including chancellor Beverly Davenport Friday morning to reassess the coaching search after failing to settle terms with several candidates for head football coach over the past two weeks.

Currie’s firing comes after calls to fire the athletic director surfaced online and student protests broke out on campus over the past week in response to the athletic association’s inability to hire a new football coach.
