Two prep players named to youth national teams
Diamond DeShields, an elite basketball prospect from Norcross High School, will play for the 2010 USA Women's U18 National team. The USA women will compete in the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship which runs June 23-27 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado.
Andraya Carter of Buford High School will also represent the U.S. at the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic three-on-three tournament. The Youth Olympic Games women's basketball competition will take place from August 15 to 23 in Singapore.
The three-on-three team will be coached by Kathy Richey-Walton, the head coach at Southwest DeKalb.
"First of all, to be asked to represent your country in the first youth Olympic games is a tremendous honor," she said. "I feel like I won the lottery in having one of our own kids from Georgia there as well."
