Colquitt County High’s Vann Pitts did a little of everything for the host Packers in a 3-0 victory over Parkview in the first game of their Class AAAAA baseball series on Monday night.

On the mound Pitts threw a complete game shutout and at the plate he hit a solo home run.

The Panthers evened the series in the second game, winning 8-4 thanks largely to a two-run home run by Jack Esmonde. Jeff Ronpirin had a two-run double, Ryan Blanton added a three-run triple and Matt Olson had a sacrifice fly in the win.

The teams will meet for a series-deciding third game on Tuesday.

Class AAAA

Whitewater 7-12, Effingham Co. 4-2: Alex Liquori hit a walk-off grand slam in the eighth inning of the first game for the host Wildcats, and Josh Baker earned the win on the mound. In the second game, Whitewater won in six innings as Daniel Amos got the pitching decision and Drew Weselowski hit a three-run homer.

Class AAA

Columbus 6-16, Thomson 0-0: Kyle Carter threw a complete-game shutout in the first game to lead the host Blue Devils over the Bulldogs. In the second game, Tyler Mathis had a two-run homer and a grand slam in the same inning, and Carter, Pierce Ressmeyer and Jordan Weems all homered to complete the sweep.

CLASS AA

Pike County 9-6, Lovett 2-7: Blake Edwards and Kody Adams each hit home runs for the host Pirates in the first game, and Adams picked up the complete-game victory on the mound. The Lions tied the series after Jack Stickney scored three runs and Robbie Blair added two RBIs.

Class A

Hebron Christian 12-2, Calvary Day 8-1: Kevin Burgee earned the first-game win as the Lions stormed back from a 5-1 deficit after two innings. Hebron Christian scored six runs in the fourth, led by Denny Lockhart's two-run single. In the second game, Mason Felt pitched a two-hit complete game with eight strikeouts.
