Pitching was the storyline for Monday's MLB Draft.

Georgia Tech's Jed Bradley was the first player drafted with local connections, with the junior left-handed pitcher selected at No. 15 overall by the Milwaukee Brewers

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Braves went against their tradition of high school prospects to draft Florida State left-handed pitcher Sean Gilmartin at No. 28.

Pitchers were selected with the first four picks for the first time since 1965.

The No. 1 overall was UCLA right-hander Gerrit Cole by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has been clocked as high as 100 mph, registering a Pac-10 record 203 strikeouts this season. Cole was drafted in the first round in 2008 by the New York Yankees but turned them down to attend college.

Cole's UCLA teammate, pitcher Trevor Bauer was taken No. 3 by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cole and Bauer are the highest-drafted teammates since former Braves third baseman Bob Horner and Hubie Brooks in the 1978 draft.

Two of the nation's top college football prospects at quarterback were also drafted in the top 10. The Kansas City Royals ended the streak of pitchers by taking local outfielder Bubba Starling at fifth overall. Starling signed a football scholarship with Nebraska.

Archie Badley, a high school pitcher from Oklahoma, was picked by the Diamondbacks at No. 7. He signed to play quarterback Oklahoma.
