Milton sweeps Fulton cross county; Mill Creek boys, Norcross girls take Gwinnett

Class AAAAAA No. 2 Milton's cross country team swept the Fulton County Public School Championships on Saturday at their home course. The Eagles' No. 2 boys team placed four runners in the top six, including Nathan Riech, who won the overall race. Teammate Miles Dayoub came in second place. Johns Creek finished second in the team standings, and Centennial came in third. The Eagles girls team edged second-place Roswell with seven Milton runners finishing in the top 21. Allie Buchalski of Johns Creek won the individual race.

More cross country

The Class AAAAAA No. 1 Mill Creek boys won the Gwinnett County Championships on Saturday, beating second-place Norcross and third-place Brookwood. The Hawks had four runners finish in the top 10, led by Eric Westog, who came in fourth. Josh Brickell of Peachtree Ridge won the race, and Norcross' Arman Rehmann came in second. … In the girls division, Katherine Yost of Norcross won. No. 4 Brookwood, however, put three racers in the top five and won the team race. No. 5 Peachtree Ridge finished runner-up, and Mill Creek came in third. Class AA No. 2 Wesleyan finished second. … Reilly Friedman of Class A No. 3 Galloway came in second in the Run Wild Meet in Macon. Friedman's Gales took fifth place in a meet won by Athens Academy. … Kathryn Foreman of Class A No. 1 Landmark Christian won the girls race in Macon. Foreman and her teammates came in second overall behind Lowndes.

Volleyball

Class AAA No. 1 Blessed Trinity suffered its first loss of the year Saturday in the Over the Mountain tournament in Hoover, Ala. Blessed Trinity was 5-1 at the tournament, losing to Hoover. Senior Jessica Holler, an Emory University commitment, has led the Titans with a .408 hitting percentage, a 3.6 kills-per-game average and is also averaging one block per game. Blessed Trinity also has received contributions from senior Anny Feruck (.380 hitting percentage), Molly McAlvany (.371 hitting percentage, 3.6 kills per game), and sophomore Maggie Rick, who is averaging a state-best 9.7 assists per game. … Class AAA No. 2 Woodward Academy finished second at the Tournament of Champions in Dorman, S.C. The War Eagles had a 5-3 record in the tournament and are 28-8.

Softball

No. 4 Peachtree Ridge (17-2) got past No. 7 Collins Hill 6-5 Thursday as Sarah Walker hit a 2-run triple in the seventh inning to drive in the winning run. Quinn Hill earned the victory and improved to 9-2. For Collins Hill, Payton Wilson was 3-for-3 with a home run, and Laine Simmons was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. … Class AAA No. 1 Buford improved to 18-1 with a 9-0 victory against North Hall on Thursday. The Wolves are hitting .357 as a team while holding opponents to a .192 average. Buford has outscored its opponents 121-20. … Kanani Cabrales has helped guide No. 3 Archer to 13 consecutive victories by hitting .458 with four home runs and 11 doubles. Jacqueline Switzer is batting .379 with 23 runs. … Tynetta Muhammad and Taylor Montgomery of Arabia Mountain have combined for only 26 at-bats on the season but have 16 and 15 stolen bases, respectively. Muhammad has seven hits in 11 at-bats, and Montgomery has 10 hits in 15 at-bats. … Lakeside-DeKalb has been led by Marie Collop and Aubrey Blackstock. Collop is batting .614 with 40 RBIs, and Blackstock is hitting .592 with 38 runs.
