Hot or Not: High school football sleeper teams

AJC readers rate Georgia's hot (or not hot) high school football sleeper teams for 2008.

AJC high schools writer Todd Holcomb recently listed his Class AAAAA-AAAA top 10 teams for 2008 and our readers wrote back, asking "Where is the love?" for certain area sleeper teams. Newnan (in blue) is a particular bone of contention among fans. "Why no respect for Newnan? Is it because the Cougars are not a 'traditional' power?," one reader asks. Another says of N. Gwinnett (in white): "North is highly overranked at 4."

Any team who's ever played Brookwood (in white) will tell you this: Never count out the Broncos. And AJC fans mainly agree. "Coach Crews is too smart to let all that talent go to waste, young or not," one remarks.

Then there's this: "Where is Mays at, people?" Ahhh... Good old Raider Nation gets straight to the point regarding Todd's omission of Big Blue in his preseason top 10 list.

Southside checking in with love for Sandy Creek (in white) and criticism of Fayette rival Whitewater (in maroon). "In AAAA you've left out Sandy Creek, with the talent returning and a support crew like theirs, how is that possible?," one Fighting Patriot wants to know. But this - "What person put Whitewater as a top 10? As the former 1st Lady would say, 'Just Say No To Drugs!'" - is, um, harsh.

Banneker? Yes, Banneker. There's this from a reader: "Didn't think Banneker brought that much to the table. Wow..." Well, Todd sees it like this: "Banneker [in red] has a high number of college prospects."

Don't sleep on the Knights. Or... do sleep on the Knights? Here, we'll let this fan's words explain: "The reason I chose Centennial is, they are loaded with college prospects and a few D-1 prospects. They are my sleeper pick." OK, so don't sleep on the Knights even if they're your sleeper pick. We got it.

To Sleep Or Not To Sleep, Part 2: "Y'all sleepin' on Stephenson. They are going to be a great team this year. I went to all their varsity and JV games last year and they have a lot of talent with the younger group." The Jags (in white) always seem to be in the AAAAA mix so we'll pay attention.
