Creekside squandered a handful of first-half opportunities before pulling away for a 25-6 victory against Banneker.
The Seminoles (2-0) finished their first five series in Banneker territory, but got just one touchdown.
“I’ll take the ‘W’,” said Creekside coach Johnny White, “but we made a lot of mistakes. We played pretty good defense. We’ll just take this week by week and get ready for Tri-Cities.”
As frustrating as the first half was for Creekside, which blitzed Morrow 47-0 in its season opener, things were worse for Banneker.
The Trojans (1-1) were held to 169 total yards and got no closer than the Creekside 48-yard line until the fourth quarter.
On their second drive, the Seminoles drove to the Trojans 4 before the Banneker defense stiffened, and Rohiello Mahieos’ 32-yard field-goal attempt was off the mark.
Creekside got on the board early in the second quarter when freshman quarterback Evan Berry, the younger brother of Kansas City Chiefs rookie Eric Berry, hit Josh Holsey for a 60-yard touchdown pass.
Holsey caught the ball between two defenders on the left sideline.
One of them fell down, and Holsey stepped over him and cut to the middle of the field for a free run to the end zone.
