Gwinnett's Lanier High hires Collins Hill's Wells
Billy Wells, the head coach at Collins Hill the past two seasons, will be the first coach and athletics director at Lanier, the newest high school in Gwinnett County.
Collins Hill was 8-3 in each of Wells' two seasons.
Lanier, set to open in the fall, will be the northern-most Gwinnett high school and draw mostly from the North Gwinnett district bordering Forsyth and Hall counties. Lanier's nickname will be the Longhorns.
Lanier will be the third Gwinnett high school to open in two years. In 2009, Mountain View and Archer opened and played junior varsity schedules.
"The athletic director position was tied into the football position and the leadership position ended up being too hard to pass up," Wells told Will Hammock of the Gwinnett Daily Post.
