Grayson's Kirubel Erassa, the state's fastest high school distance runner, finished eighth at Saturday's Foot Locker National Championship in San Diego.

Erassa ran 15:35 in the cross country meet in a stready rain. Many of the nation's top runners participated.

"I'm happy about top 10, but it wasn't one of my best performances," said Erassa. "I like to make a run for it with about 800 meters left, but the leaders were too far ahead."

Erassa is mulling over scholarship offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona and Mississippi State, among others.
