Dunwoody edged Lakeside by 2.075 points to claim its third consecutive DeKalb County gymnastics title last week. Performances in the parallel bars by Wildcat junior Oksana Casey (a score of 8.1) and freshman Lizzie Marra (7.9), who placed first and third, respectively, in the event, provided the margin of victory. Casey also took first in the balance beam. Finishing behind Dunwoody and Lakeside were Tucker, Chamblee and Arabia Mountain.

More gymnastics
Arabia Mountain freshman Camille Cassar won the individual all-around title at the DeKalb championships, earning first-place finishes in the vault (8.7) and the floor exercise, where her 9.15 was the highest score in any event at the meet. Cassar also took second in the parallel bars (8.0), third in the beam (7.3) and finished with a total score of 33.15. Another freshman, Marra (31.60) of Dunwoody, and Lindsey Bergstrom (30.65) of Lakeside placed second and third, respectively, overall.

Golf
Milton won the 2011 North Georgia High School Golf Classic this week at Achasta Golf Club in Dahlonega, edging Spalding, the defending champion, by one stroke. The Eagles were led by junior John Russo, who shot a 2-over 74 in the decisive second round of the two-day event. Fellow junior Patrick Grahek and sophomore Zach Jaworski both shot second-round 75s for Milton, which finished with a team score of 606. Senior Davin White of Spalding, the defending medalist of the tournament, reclaimed his individual title at141. White posted scores of 70 and 71 and won by five shots over Roswell's junior Will McFarlin.

Lacrosse
The Northview boys pulled even with top-ranked Lambert in this week's Laxpower.com power rankings of Georgia teams. The Titans, who advanced to the state semifinals last season, are 9-2 and scheduled in the next week to face two of the top teams in the South – Lake Highland (Fla.) Prep on Thursday and Charlotte (N.C.) Latin next Friday. Northview gave Lambert (12-1) its only loss of the season, an 11-5 defeat on Feb. 25. ... St. Pius senior midfielder Rick Lewis is ranked the 49th best high school player in the country, according to Laxpower.com. Lewis, who has committed to Ohio State, is the only Georgia player ranked in the nation's top 1,000 by the website. ... The Milton girls, top-ranked in Georgia by Laxpower.com, will compete in a tournament in Virginia this weekend in preparation for a showdown with undefeated Westminster (12-0) next Friday. The Wildcats are the state's No. 2 team. Milton is led by Allison Thompson on defense and Lydia Cassada on offense.

Track and field
Mays ran away with the girls championship, while Grady outlasted Carver for the boys title at the Atlanta City championships. Mays got first-place finishes by Quenesha Jefferson (34 feet, 11 1/4 inches) in the triple jump, Mariah Dean (33-11) in the shot put, Khayla Williams (5 minutes, 49.24 seconds) in the 1,600 meters and the Raiders' 400 meter relay team (49.56). ... Grady's city champions were Jericho Smith in the high jump (5-10), Shomari Gervin in the pole vault (11-6), Zane Coburn in the 800 (1:56.66) and the 1,600 meters (4:29.8), Bailey Roth in the 3,200 meters (10:06.17) and the Grey Knights' 400-meter relay team (43.22). ... Brookwood swept the Gwinnett County championships. The Broncos girls were paced by juniors Caroline Kissel (5:17.02) and QuanDra Shanks (5:19.41), who finished first and second, respectively, in the 1,600 meters. Kissel also won the 3,200 meters (11.18.54). The boys were led by senior Jackson Wearn (1:57.27) and junior Kisean Smith (2:00.50), who finished first and second, respectively, in the 800 meters. Wearn (4:22.97) and Smith (4:23.23) did the same in the 1,600 meters, while seniors William Smith (14.48) and Paul Beaty (14.68) placed first and second in the 110-meter hurdles. Junior Justin Grose won the pole vault (13-00).
