Blessed Trinity hires former Roswell football coach

Blessed Trinity didn't have to look far to find a new head football coach. They found one right across the street.

The Catholic private school hired former Roswell High coach Tim McFarlin on Wednesday. McFarlin was introduced to the Blessed Trinity football players in a short meeting.

"He's a great coach; he's from the Roswell area, and he wanted to get back into it," said Blessed Trinity athletic director Ricky Turner. "It ended being a great fit for him and a great fit for us."

McFarlin was Roswell's coach for 10 seasons, leading the Hornets to the 2006 Class AAAAA state championship game (they tied Peachtree Ridge 14-14). McFarlin retired after the 2007 season with a career record of 82-43-1.

After sitting out one season, McFarlin returned to football as an assistant at King's Ridge Christian in 2009 and Roswell last season. He replaces Turner, who stepped down after 10 seasons as Blessed Trinity's coach to spend more time with his family.

McFarlin will start his new job June 1. He has to finish the school year at Roswell as a teacher and golf coach.
