Blessed Trinity’s Tim McFarlin, a football coach with four state championships at two schools, called it “one of the best performances I’ve seen in 40 years.”
Justice Haynes, a sophomore running back, rushed for 331 yards and all five of his team’s touchdowns on 39 carries Friday night against state power Calhoun. Blessed Trinity won 35-21, pulling away from a 21-21 game when Haynes scored twice in the fourth quarter. He also completed a 41-yard pass to quarterback J.C. French on a third-and-9 in the closing minutes to ice the game.
“Honestly, I didn’t realize he had that many carries until I saw the film,” McFarlin said. “I was especially impressed by his yards after contact and his effort in the fourth quarter. He and the offensive line seemed to feed off of each other, and I’m proud of the chemistry they have at this point in the season.”
Haynes, the son of former Georgia and NFL fullback Verron Haynes, announced on his Twitter account Monday that he’d received a scholarship offer from the Bulldogs.
