Bobby May, who led Westlake to two region titles in his three seasons, is the new football coach at Kell, the Cobb County school announced Friday morning.

May’s Westlake teams were 27-10 with region titles in 2019 and 2020. Westlake, a south Fulton County school in Class 6A, was 10-3 this past season and lost in the quarterfinals to Carrollton.

May had been Westlake’s offensive coordinator when promoted in 2019. May was head coach at Suncoast in Florida and had led it to its best season in 13 years (6-3 record) before coming to Georgia. May also has coached at Pal Beach Lakes and Palm Beach Gardens.

Kell is one of Cobb County’s most successful programs but has bogged down the past two seasons, losing in the first round each time. The downturn corresponded with the GHSA moving Kell up to Class 6A. Kell will be in Class 5A in 2022.

Kell won four region titles and reached one state semifinal between 2010 to 2015 in classes 5A and 4A.
