Josh Niblett, the football coach who won six state titles at Hoover in Alabama, is coming to Georgia.

Gainesville, a Class 6A school that has struggled since its glory days with coach Bruce Miller and quarterback Deshaun Watson, is announcing its new head coach Monday at 9 a.m., Gainesville athletic director Adam Lindsey said Friday morning.

Niblett’s record at Hoover is 171-26 over 14 seasons, including 49-8 in the playoffs. Niblett replaced Rush Propst as Hoover’s coach in 2008 and won titles in 2009, 2002, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017. Hoover was 12-1 this past season.

Niblett also coached at Oneonta, leading it to a state title in 2004, and at Oxford. His overall record is 236-58.

Gainesville won a state title with Watson in 2012 and claimed nine region titles and 11 10-win seasons during coach Miller’s time there was 2002 to 2017.

But the Red Elephants have gone 18-25 over the past four seasons, the past two while competing in Class 7A. The 2012 title was won in 5A, and Gainesville was in 3A at the turn of the century. Gainesville is moving back to 6A next season.

In 2022, Georgia Power projected its winter peak electricity demand would grow by about 400 megawatts by 2031. Since then, Georgia has experienced a boom of data centers, which require a large load of electricty to run, and Georgia Power's recent forecast shows peak demand growing by 20 times the 400-megawatt estimate from just three years ago.
