“Dre played as well as you could ask any tailback to play last Friday. He ran hard and ran smart. He’s done well all season and he capped the year off with a career night. We felt like he was going to have a big night because of the way he practiced all week. He practiced with great effort and great focus all week and it paid off. His 1,000 yards rushing in a season is a great accomplishment and Dre has played a pivotal role in helping move our program forward.” – Providence Christian head coach Jonathan Beverly told the Gwinnett Daily Post in reference to junior RB Dre Booker’s school-record 259 yards rushing on 26 carries and a touchdown in a 34-21 win over Lakewood Academy. Booker also became the Storm’s first 1,000-yard rusher in the program’s history.
“We’re playing a team that we’re very familiar with. We lost that game because of turnovers and missed assignments. So we’ve got to clean that up from tonight to have a chance to get out of the first round.” – Whitefield Academy head coach Coleman Joyner said to the Marietta Daily Journal in reference to the Wolfpack’s 33-7 loss to Fellowship Christian in the regular season finale. Whitefield (6-4) will host Brookstone (6-3) in the first round of the state playoffs.
“Something I told the whole team is that they played hard until the end. It is one of those scenarios that we really are down so many players, but I’m just really proud of them.” -- North Cobb Christian coach Matt Jones said to the Marietta Daily Journal on his team’s 27-10 loss to Christian Heritage. The Eagles (3-7) will travel to Holy Innocents’ (9-1) for the first round of the state playoffs.
“I think it’s always good momentum going into the postseason with a win. I think we’re relatively healthy and we’re gonna play a good opponent. Everybody’s good when you make the playoffs, so it’s going to be exciting to have a home game and have a home crowd, and we’re looking forward to it.” -- Mount Paran head coach Mitch Jordan said to the Marietta Daily Journal in reference to his team’s 57-6 win over Cobb County rival Walker. The Eagles (6-4) will host Mount Vernon Presbyterian (6-4) in the first round of the playoffs.
“The end result is what we wanted, but between A and Z it was a little interesting. You can tell we took a week off and looked a little rusty, but the kids played hard, executed and we came out on the good side.” Greg Vandagriff, Prince Avenue head coach said to the Athens Banner Herald after his team closed the regular season with a 44-15 win over Athens Christian.
“The brackets were pretty much set, and we reached out to (King’s Ridge) and they said they were going to forfeit. We’re a little confused by it. I talked to the Georgia High School Association and they sent me confirmation that (King’s Ridge) had requested a forfeit. They said they had a couple of injuries, but they played Thursday night and won 44-0, although it was against a new school, East Forsyth. We’re a little disappointed. We wanted to stay in the groove, so to speak, but it is what it is.” – Prince Avenue Christian athletic director Richard Ricketts said to the Athens Banner Herald in reference to the decision by King’s Ridge (4-6) to forfeit its first-round playoff game against the defending state champion Wolverines (9-1).
