Private No. 2 Eagle’s Landing Christian (0-2) at Class AAA No. 10 Crisp County (0-2)

Both squads are looking for their first win of the season. Both have started out facing schools from larger classifcations. ELCA has dropped games to Class 5A No. 6 Woodward Academy (17-14) and No. 3 Ware County (52-28), while Crisp has lost to Class 5A Houston County (27-24) and Class 4A No. 3 Perry (21-0). This will be Crisp’s last non-region game before entering league play next week. ELCA will continue its non-region gauntlet next week against Class 5A No. 9 Blessed Trinity. The teams met for the first time last season, with Crisp winning 34-14.

Private No. 3 Calvary Day (3-0) at Private No. 10 North Cobb Christian (2-1)

Calvary Day is 3-0 for the first time since 2019. They opened the season with a 21-14 win over defending champion Prince Avenue Christian. Sophomore QB Jake Merklinger has thrown for 560 yards and four touchdowns, while leading the team in rushing with 116 yards and a touchdown. North Cobb Christian was less than four minutes away from going 3-0 but gave put 21 points in that span and lost to No. 5 Private Whitefield Academy 28-18. NCC won the only previous meeting between the two squads, 34-0, last season.

Public No. 4 Metter (2-0) at Savannah Country Day (2-0)

Metter went 13-1 last season and was undefeated until losing in the semifinals to eventual champion Irwin County. So far this season, the Tigers have taken out two teams from larger classifications – Class 2A Swainsboro (31-20) and Class 4A South Effingham (62-31). Country Day is undefeated thus far under new head coach John Mohring, who didn’t take the job until late May after former head coach and now athletic director Jim Colis stepped down. Colis had named former Hornet offensive coordinator Ty Ward as the new leader of the program, but he resigned before coaching one game, in order to be closer to family. Savannah Christian is coming off of a bye week, after downing Savannah-region rival Emanuel County Institute, 22-20, snapping a seven-game losing streak to the Bulldogs that went back to 2006.
