Lowndes clinched a region title Friday night, and Brookwood, Milton and Denmark took sole possession of first place in their regions by defeating their primary rivals.
No. 7 Lowndes (7-2, 2-0) took out No. 5 Colquitt County 52-31. The region title is the Vikings’ third in five seasons. Colquitt (7-2, 1-1) was the defending champion and had beaten Lowndes 40-10 last season.
In Region 4, unranked Brookwood beat reigning Class 7A champion Grayson 35-14. Brookwood (6-2, 2-0) last won a region title in 2017.
Grayson (6-3, 2-1), ranked No. 9, had won 19 straight region games. Brookwood will be the region champion if it beats south Gwinnett (4-4, 0-2) or Parkview (4-5, 1-2) over the final two weeks.
In Region 5, No. 4 Milton (7-1, 3-0) took the lead with a 44-34 victor over No. 8 Roswell (6-2, 2-1). It was Milton’s 18th straight region victory. Milton probably won’t have a chance to clinch until its final regular-season game against Cherokee (5-4, 3-1) in two weeks.
In Region 6, Denmark (6-1, 4-0) is one victory from clinching its first region championship after a 17-14 victory over South Forsyth (6-2, 3-1). Denmark opened in Forsyth County in 2018. The Danes finish up against Gainesville and West Forsyth, two 4-4 teams.
The other four regions remain tightly contested.
Pebblebrook (8-0-1) and McEachern (4-4, 2-0) play in two weeks, possibly with the Region 2 title on the line.
North Cobb (7-1, 3-0) can clinch Region 3 with a victory next week against Marietta (5-3, 2-1).
Norcross (7-2, 5-0) and Archer (4-4, 4-0) play in two weeks to decide Region 7.
In Region 8, No. 1 Collins Hill (9-0, 3-0) plays at No. 2 Mill Creek (8-0, 2-0) on Friday.
