There are 27 total games on the Class 4A Week 7 schedule with 20 total region games, seven total non-region games and three games that will be played on Thursday. Additionally, five teams will be on their bye weeks, not including Shaw who will be off as a result of Jordan cancelling the rest of its season this past week.
Region play will begin this week in Region 1 with three outstanding matchups. Rivals Bainbridge and Cairo will faceoff and Dougherty will put its undefeated 4-0 start on the line on the road against Westover. The third matchup is Monroe at Thomas County Central—which is coming off a huge 24-8 win over defending Class 2A state champion Callaway.
One of the biggest games this week will take place in Region 2 with undefeated No. 9 ranked LaGrange facing off with No. 5 Carver-Columbus. LaGrange is 2-0 in Region 2 heading into kickoff and Carver-Columbus is 3-0 in region play. As a result, the winner of this game will control its destiny the rest of the season in the race for the region crown. Troup is also 3-0 in region play and will host winless Kendrick and Columbus and Hardaway will meet for a game with significant playoff implications. Hardaway scored a 13-12 win over Spencer last week to move to 1-1 in region play and Columbus was defeated 38-14 by Troup and is 1-2 in region action.
Region 3 will have another week of non-region matchups. Benedictine made major headlines last Friday with its 49-42 win over Class 5A Ware County. The No. 4 ranked Cadets will have another opportunity to get a big win when they take on No. 10 ranked Class 3A powerhouse Burke County on Thursday. Jenkins will visit Harris County on Friday and New Hampstead will host Windsor Forest on Thursday.
In Region 4, Spalding and No. 3 ranked Perry will both have an opportunity to move to 2-0 in region play. Perry opened up its region slate last Thursday with a 49-7 win over Rutland and Spalding defeated West Laurens 21-7 on Friday in its region opener. Howard will host West Laurens in its region opener this Friday and Rutland will visit Baldwin—which scored a 45-0 win over Westside-Macon this past week to improve to 1-0 in region play.
Three region matchups and a non-region battle between McDonough and Rockdale County will take place in Region 5 this week. Luella is the first Region 5 team to hit the 2-0 mark in region play and the Lions will host Hampton.
Region 6 will see No. 2 ranked Marist take on Hapeville Charter on Thursday and then Miller Grove and Arabia Mountain facing off on Friday. Miller Grove opened region play with a 72-12 win over Druid Hills and Arabia Mountain dropped a 20-10 battle to No. 8 ranked Stephenson.
Region 7 will begin its region slate this week with three intriguing openers. Cedartown and Pickens will square off with identical 3-1 records heading into kickoff. Pickens is coming off a bye and No. 6 ranked Cedartown is fresh off its 31-7 loss to Class 5A No. 7 ranked Calhoun. Northwest Whitfield hosts Central-Carroll and Heritage-Catoosa will host Ridgeland.
Finally, in Region 8 there will be a trio of region games on Friday. No. 1 ranked Jefferson will visit East Hall, Madison County will host Cedar Shoals and Chestatee will open its region slate at home against North Oconee—which defeated Madison County 28-0 last Friday. Cedar Shoals scored a 42-8 win over East Hall and Jefferson defeated Flowery Branch 27-7. Flowery Branch is one of the five teams on its bye this week.
