Class 4A Blog: Week 3 Takeaways

The Week 3 results are in and this blog will examine how each region performed. In Region 1, Bainbridge earned a win after Valdosta forfeited the matchup and Cairo led Thomasville 21-0 before falling 26-21 to the Bulldogs. Dougherty improved to 2-0 with a solid 38-8 win over Lithonia, Thomas County Central dominated Lake Placid FL 50-6 and Monroe dropped a 52-26 game to Irwin County.

Region 2 had just two of its nine teams in action this weekend and both were defeated. Hardaway fell 23-14 to Callaway and Spencer was defeated 62-6 by Northside-Columbus. Region 3 went 2-1 and Jenkins’ game with Jeff Davis was cancelled. Benedictine fell short 33-23 to Beaufort SC, Islands scored a 19-7 win over Johnson-Savannah and New Hampstead scored a big 51-0 win over Savannah.

In Region 4, Baldwin dropped a 41-20 loss to Class 5A powerhouse Ware County, Howard forfeited its game to Northside-Warner Robins and Perry scored a big 21-0 win over Crisp County. Rutland was defeated 40-13 to Region 5′s Luella, West Laurens was defeated by Dodge County 30-22 and Spalding defeated Ola 27-17.

Fayette County dropped a 35-28 battle to Class 5A’s McIntosh, McDonough won 19-6 to Woodland-Stockbridge and Riverdale improved to 2-0 with a 7-6 win over Drew. In Region 6, defending Class 4A champion Marist fell 14-9 to Woodward Academy on a last minute touchdown. Stephenson moved to 3-0 with a 30-0 win over ML King and Miller Grove posted a 35-13 win over Therrell.

In Region 7, Heritage-Catoosa opened its season with a 34-14 win over King’s Academy TN and Central-Carroll scored a big 49-6 win over Towers. In Region 8, No. 1 ranked Jefferson defeated Southside SC 45-7. Jefferson scored 42 points in the first quarter in its home win over visiting Southside. Sophomore Sammy Brown had a return for a touchdown on the opening kickoff, rushed for a touchdown and recovered a fumble. Malaki Starks, Reese Anderson and Isaiah Copeland also rushed for scores for the Dragons.
