Two ranked Class 3A teams beat ranked programs from other classes Friday, and No. 5 Sandy Creek had little trouble with No. 7 Westminster (44-14) in the one game between ranked 3A opponents.

The Monroe Area-Clarkston game was canceled because of COVID concerns at Clarkston.

Here’s how the weekend unfolded:

-- No. 2 Oconee County (4-0) beat Class 2A No. 4 Thomasville 20-6. Oconee County quarterback Jacob Wright passed to Darius Johnson Jr. on a short route, and Johnson carried the ball 74 yards for a touchdown to give the Warriors a 7-6 lead in the second quarter. Johnson had an interception return for a touchdown to extend the lead to 14-6, and two field goals from Gabe Valdez provided the final margin.

-- No. 3 Pierce County (3-1) defeated Class 2A No. 5 Clinch County 33-13 and will try to carry that momentum into next week’s game against Class 4A No. 3 Fitzgerald.

-- No. 1 Cedar Grove handled Greater Atlanta Christian 47-0. The Saints scored 33 points in the second half to overwhelm the struggling Spartans. The victory set the tone for the Saints’ probable run through Region 5-3A.

-- No. 4 Peach County (1-2) picked up its first victory after beating Mary Persons 35-13 in a Region 2-3A game. The Trojans will face Sumter County next week.

-- No. 5 Sandy Creek’s 44-14 victory against No. 7 Westminster was telling. Patriots quarterback Geimere Latimer passed for three touchdowns – two to Miles Thornton.

Other notables: Appling County defeated Class 6A Bradwell Institute 39-6; Thomson beat South Carolina’s May River 48-7, and No. 10 Hart County beat Westside from South Carolina 63-28. Unranked Crisp County pick up its first victory of the Miguel Patrick era after beating Jackson 27-0.
