It’s somewhat fitting that the Thomson football game was cancelled early Friday morning after being previewed in Thursday’s blog. But that’s the way of the high school football world during the COVID-19 pandemic.

You just roll with it.

Here are the highlights from Week 3:

-- Top-ranked Cedar Grove (1-1) showed promise at Class 7A No. 6 Colquitt County before losing 28-19. The Saints will rest next week before playing Greater Atlanta Christian on Sept. 17 to open Region 5 play.

-- No. 2 Oconee County (3-0) shut down Clarke Central while forcing four turnovers. The Warriors led 6-0 after two field goals from senior kicker Gabe Valdez. A 14-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Jacob Wright to senior Darius Johnson put Oconee County ahead 14-0 entering the half. C.J. Jones put the Warriors ahead 21-2 with a fourth-quarter touchdown, putting the game out of reach.

-- No. 3 Pierce County (2-1) had little trouble defeating Claxton 38-0. The Bears will rest next week before traveling to Clinch County on Sept. 17.
