Andy Dyer, the football coach who started Archer’s program in 2009 and won four region titles and played for a state championship in 2014, announced his resignation to his players Tuesday morning.

Archer had been at his school longer than any Class 7A coach except Keith Maloof of Norcross and Shane Queen of North Cobb. His final Archer team went 7-5 and won the Region 6-7A title.

Archer won 11 games or more five times under Dyer, a Brookwood graduate. The 2014 team started 0-3 but won 11 straight before losing to No. 1-ranked Colquitt County 28-24 in the title game.

Dyer’s record was 97-32, according to the Georgia High School Football Historians Association. Dyer won three additional games during his first season when Archer was a new school playing some JV opponents, giving him 100, which his school recognized during the playoffs last fall.

Among the better players who played for Dyer were Andrew Booth of Clemson, Ethan Lane of NC. State, Quinn Miller of Virginia, Colby Wooden of Auburn and Dylan Singleton of Duke.

Dyer issued a statement thanking Archer for the opportunity.

“During my time at Archer, I have been blessed with people by my side who have been the best teammates a head coach could ask for,’’ he said. “I am excited to pursue the next chapter of my life with the legacy of Archer football forever in my heart.”

Dyer had coached at Mill Creek, East Coweta and Brookwood when Archer hired him.
