Eagle’s Landing Christian is the new No. 1 high school football team in Class A after a week in which six teams lost in Georgia’s lowest classification.
That included previous No. 1 Lincoln County, beaten 21-6 by Washington-Wilkes in a rivalry that dates to 1922.
ELCA (2-1) defeated Clinch County 47-20 despite missing preseason all-state players Keyante Green, Isaac Rochell and D.J. Curl to injury. ELCA, a semifinal team in 2011, lost its opener to Washington County, the No. 6 team in AAA, but has a win over Briarwood Christian, whch made the semifinals in Alabama’s Class 5A last season.
Prince Avenue Christian and Marion County moved into the A rankings, replacing Landmark Christian and 2011 champion Savannah Christian (0-2).
Valdosta is out of the AAAAAA rankings after losing to AA Brooks County 28-24. Norcross, a 20-0 winner over Parkview, moved in at No. 10.
In AAAA, Eastside replaced Baldwin. Pierce County, North Hall and Cartersville joined the AAA rankings in place of North Oconee, Elbert County and Jackson. Washington-Wilkes is newly ranked in AA in place of Laney.
