The Hawks signed Kyle Korver on Friday to the contract he agreed to in principle last week.
The unrestricted free agent guard/forward ranked fourth on the Hawks in points last season, his first with the team after being acquired in an offseason trade with the Bulls.
The sharp-shooting Korver attracted attention from several teams and opted for the Hawks’ four-year, $24 million offer. The deal pays him less annually than he was offered by other teams.
“Kyle was a key contributor for us last season, and we’re thrilled to retain him,” Hawks general manager Danny Ferry said in a statement. “He is a tremendous competitor and an important presence for our team both on and off the court.”
The 6-foot-7 Korver played in 74 regular-season games last season and averaged 10.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 30.5 minutes per game. He ranked second in the NBA in 3-point field-goal percentage at .457. His 189 3-point makes ranked fourth in the league, and his 414 attempts for tied for 15th.
He has a streak of 73 consecutive regular-season games with a 3-pointer, the longest active streak and fourth longest in league history. He failed to hit from long range only in the Hawks’ season opener. His run trails only Dana Barros (89), Michael Adams (79) and Dennis Scott (78).
“Both me and my wife are really excited,” Korver told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution after agreeing to the deal. “We had a great experience with the city and the organization and feel very fortunate to be wanted back. I believe in what Danny is building. I do. And I’m excited to play my role in that.”
Hawks lose in Vegas: John Jenkins scored a game-high 24 points for the Hawks in a 90-83 loss to the Clippers in their Las Vegas Summer League opener Friday.
First-round draft pick Lucas Nogueira, who was cleared to play just before game time, had 10 points and eight rebounds. Fellow first-rounder Dennis Schroder added six points and seven assists, including several lobs to Nogueira for dunks. Second-round pick Mike Muscala finished with 11 points and six rebounds.
The Hawks play again Sunday against the Heat at 10 p.m.
Teague decision: The Hawks must make a decision on whether to match the offer sheet signed by point guard Jeff Teague no later than Saturday. Teague signed a four-year, $32 million offer from the Bucks on Wednesday.
