In what may have been his last game for Middlesbrough, future Atlanta United goalkeeper Brad Guzan put in a man-of-the-match performance in last week’s 2-0 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup.

"(His performance against City) was not a surprise for me, maybe for someone it was, but for me it wasn't a surprise," Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka told GazetteLive.com in England . "When I wanted to sign him I knew it was because he was a really, really good goalkeeper."

Guzan faced 18 shots, including 10 on target. He was named man of the match by the BBC.

Guzan will join Atlanta United this summer after the Premier League season ends . He signed a multi-year deal with the MLS expansion club that was announced in January. The Premier League season ends May 21. The transfer window in England, which is when players can be sold and bought, opens July 1. The secondary transfer window in MLS opens July 10, which is when he likely will join the team.

Playing behind Victor Valdes, Guzan has seven appearances for Middlesbrough across all competitions this season. He has kept three clean sheets.

Guzan, 32, started his career in MLS before being transferred to the Premier League, where he has made almost 200 appearances for numerous clubs.

Decatur’s Alec Kann has started in goal for Atlanta United’s in its first two games: a 2-1 loss to the New York Red Bulls and a 6-1 win over Minnesota United. Atlanta United will host Chicago on Saturday.
