Cameron Tringale is on the cusp of advancing to the third round in his first Masters, potentially saved by an eagle that helped offset bogeying all four of the pars 3s during Friday’s second round at Augusta National. He shot a 3-over 75 for the tournament is 2 over, right on the projected cut line.
The former Georgia Tech All-American said the winds, which began to swirl mid-morning, weren’t the issue. Instead said he made some rookie mistakes with misses.
He was between clubs on the first two par 3s – which included three putts — hit a bad shot that landed in Rae’s Creek on 12 and couldn’t go at the deep flag on 16.
He had another bogey on the par-5 15th when his second shot landed in the pond that fronts the green.
But the five bogeys were offset by a birdie on the par-5 second and an eagle on the 13th after two of the better shots he said he hit this week.
Tringale said he wasn’t thinking about the cut as he walked to 18, but would have liked to have made birdie after missing an eight-foot putt.
