Oglethorpe golfer David Kleckner had a day to forget at the U.S. Amateur at Atlanta Athletic Club on Monday.

Kleckner, a rising junior, shot a 15-over 87 on the Riverside Course.

“Usually I can get a feel for it and if I’m hitting it bad I can do little things to find it out there,” Kleckner said. “Today, I was so lost out there I just couldn’t hit it well.”

Kleckner said he has practiced on the Riverside course two times and never shot anything close to 87.

“I had the lay of the land, I knew what to do,” he said. “I just didn’t do it.”

He said advancing to Wednesday’s first round of match play is unlikely, so he will try to have fun on Tuesday in the last round of stroke play. The top 64 golfers will advance.
